Has your dog been labelled “Aggressive”?

Your dog’s behaviour may be interpreted as “aggressive” when in actual fact your dog is just communicating inappropriately. When not understood, that perceived aggression can create fear in you and everyone around you. Once you understand that your dog’s behaviour is actually not aggression and learn to teach your dog appropriate communication, you will lose all fear and be the strong, courageous, and confident mother they need (even if you’re a guy).

what does “being your dog’s mother” mean?

The underlying psychological basis for all perceived aggressive behaviour in dogs is because they don’t trust, respect, and feel safe with their owner. All dogs need a calm, assertive, and affectionate mother (dogs aren’t paternal). When you bring home a puppy or dog, you assume this responsibility. You can learn to build the trust, respect, and safety your dog needs by communicating with them and teaching them as their mother would, through the eyes, the projection of energy, sound and touch.

We have a 4 years old Shepherd and Pitbull mix and we have been struggling to find the appropriate guidance for our dog until now. Look no further, Ken is the person you need. He is knowledgeable and transmits his knowledge to you in no time. He was able to enter our own house and became the mother of our dog in less than 10 minutes. His peaceful and assertive energy is impressive and it’s clear that he is able to communicate to dogs with sounds (translated in bark in dog’s mind), eye contact and snap of the fingers. He is also very good at explaining what to do so you feel confident at the end of a two hours session when he leaves your house. It was intense, I have to say but I’m confident that with practice, we will get there!

Ken has helped out with our three-year-old rescue. We’ve had her for eight months and spent the last six months training every day, trying to get her reactivity under control. We spent $$$ with 3 trainers prior to seeing Ken and we were considering rehoming our dog. In less than 2 hours we learned our dog is not aggressive, not even dominant just confident. We learned how to correct her and how to give her the security and leadership she was seeking. We have heard the leadership concept from the very first trainer, but we were not given the tools to communicate with our dog. Perhaps all the prior training, research and failures paved a road to this success in some way. All I know for sure, while Ken said we were ‘an easy case’, he changed our lives. He made our family whole and gave us future we didn’t think we had. If you are reading this trying to decide if Ken could help you, don’t wait, call him.

I highly recommend Ken. In June, my daughter, her 2 dogs and I went to the island to see Ken. Our education started right away. We firsthand witnessed ken’s incredible work with other dogs. His ability to communicate with them is super effective. During our stay, he corrected the way we walked our dogs by retraining us and communicating with them and we immediately saw the results. We got 100s of great tips in regard to dog behavior. We have learned a lot and we are more confident and our dogs are calmer and more balanced. Thank you so much Ken 😊

We have had Ken over to the house twice over the years for separate issues. He’s so calm and gentle with the dogs and we love his non-aggressive approach to training. It’s not about changing the dog it’s about understanding how a dog’s brain works so you can communicate with them and put them at ease. It’s really about re-training the owner. Our dogs have responded immediately to his training. He’s worth every penny. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Ken to anyone with any dog issues big or small, especially anyone considering giving up a dog due to issues. Just a few hours with Ken and he’ll show you just how simple it is to tackle your dog issues; you just have to be consistent and dedicated. . . I really think he should write a book. I would buy it!

I can’t recommend Ken highly enough. He has savant-level abilities with dogs. He seems to know something on an intuitive level that goes beyond the abilities of a “competent” dog trainer. We have two dogs, both of which have different issues with reactivity and Ken has got us well on the way to sorting it out. We were able to have the two dogs in the yard with another highly highly reactive dog and all three were able to be able to be calm together. Then, we threw a puppy into the mix and Ken guided us into having that be a calm, relaxed hangout instead of a situation which would normally end up with at least one of the dogs at the vet.
  • I’d also like to add that Ken worked with another dog who lives in an apartment underneath us. This dog has behavioural issues so sever, that she couldn’t be around anyone, dogs or people, without having an extreme reaction. After going to live with Ken for a week, the non-stop barking has ceased and she’s way calmer. Before Ken she couldn’t be around anyone at all.
  • And as I incubate more on this, I’ve parsed what is fundamentally different about Ken to other dog “trainers.” Ken truly demonstrates that it’s an honour to be amongst dogs and learn from them vs. dominate and rule them.

I had given up and refused to call anymore shelters or rescues, my heart couldn’t handle one more person telling me to kill my dog. This even sparked debates in my comments with people me or Ninja had never met. Rikki, my friend, actually asked Ken to call ME because I wouldn’t possibly hear anymore bad news. We made plans and I took the ferry over that weekend. I showed up to Ken’s fully prepared to hand Ninja over to him and never see him again, after 30 min with Ninja Ken took the leash from me and put both his hands on my shoulders and told me, in the calmest voice I had heard in weeks, to just calm down and breathe. Ninja is not a lost cause and he wasn’t even close to the most reactive dog Ken had met. Currently Ninja is with Ken and doing amazingly.

Ken has recently been working with my eight month old border collie pup, Chako, and we have experienced very positive changes. Ken has helped me understand the particular needs of a border collie. He has helped Chako become more socialized with other dogs, and he has helped me communicate more clearly with Chako and guide Chako's behaviour effectively. Chako is now a calmer presence in my home. It's clear that Ken is highly skilled and knowledge in dog behaviour. I have appreciated his coaching. He cares deeply for dogs, and he has followed-up on any sessions that he has given to check whether I need any additional guidance.

Ken came to our house as I was worried about my 5 year old Rottweiler Stella being aggressive when walking her and especially when people walked by our corner lot everyday with their dogs she would go nuts! After he showed us how to speak to our dog through his techniques she has been amazing and already has been so much easier to walk without her dragging us and less aggressive seeming to others. And I don't need all these other crazy collars I've purchase hoping to help. I finally know alot more how to deal with Stella after just half an hour with Ken. Highly recommend for any dog owner with any type dog with any type personalities to seek Ken's knowledge and teachings for a happier, less stressful furr baby and furr parent relationship. Thank you sooooo much Ken!!

How you can help

Ken has saved the lives of over 2,000 misunderstood dogs over the last 6 years.

The bad news is that many people are left with no choice but to euthanize their misunderstood reactive or "aggressive" dog. In addition, these people are destroyed by the loss of their dog and suffer immense guilt.

The good news? You can help save these dogs lives! We're committed to saving misunderstood dogs so that all puppies have a chance at life, peace, happiness and love.

The great news is that there are so many different ways you can help. Volunteer with us, Donate to the future Vancouver Island Dog Psychology Center, or Adopt a dog!

Get Started

Even when your dog has bitten you, someone else, or another dog, they are your dog and you know you have to protect them. It makes it very hard when the ‘dog experts’ and people around you are telling you to destroy them. You don’t need to continue to live with the stress, anxiety, and negative energy this is causing you. Contact us today for a consultation and we’ll help you restore peace in your home.

Our volunteers help us out with a variety of tasks including dog walking, brushing/bathing,facility cleaning, and more. Donations

We are looking for your generous support in helping to create Vancouver Island’s first and only full service Dog Psychology and Human Training Center. We have long outgrown the space we have and as a result we have had to turn away dogs that we knew would be euthanized because we simply did not have any more room. We no longer want to be forced to make that heartbreaking decision due to lack of space. We need your help to ensure this dream comes true!
Find Your Match

Adopt a Dog

Adoption Services

Find the dog that loves you for who you are! Schedule a time to come to our facility to find the dog whose energy, personality, and level of dominance matches yours. It’s vital to find the right match for you and your family.

Fostering Opportunities

We often have opportunities available for you to take a dog into your home and care for them until we find a family to adopt them to. This not only helps the fostered dog, it also helps alleviate our facilities to place new dogs at risk.
